Problem

Stay search tends to show homes that turn out to be unavailable on the chosen nights, and a nightly rate that grows once fees are added at checkout. Both problems surface at the end of the funnel, after someone has already committed attention to a listing.

Approach

The search takes where, when and who up front and treats all three as required inputs rather than optional refinements, so availability is resolved before a listing is ever shown. Total price — not the nightly headline rate — is what the listing displays, and reviews are restricted to guests who actually completed a stay. Browsing by destination, property type or amenity are three entries into the same availability-filtered result set.

Visual Showcase

Solstay homepage: the headline "Discover somewhere worth staying" above a Where / When / Who search bar.

Technical Architecture

  • Where / when / who is a single search state that every browse surface (destinations, property types, amenities) filters rather than bypasses.
  • Availability is resolved at search time, so the results set never contains a home that can't take those nights.
  • Pricing is presented as the total for the stay rather than a nightly rate plus fees revealed later.
  • Reviews are tied to completed stays, which makes the rating a property of the booking record rather than free-floating user content.
  • Guest and host are two roles over one account model — trips, saved homes and messages on one side, the listing flow on the other.
